What is "Webster's Dictionary" definition of a Politician, and a Statesman?

And explain the difference.What is "Webster's Dictionary" definition of a Politician, and a Statesman?
Politian:

[n] a person active in party politics

[n] a leader engaged in civil administration

[n] a schemer who tries to gain advantage in an organization in sly or underhanded ways



Statesman:

national leader, solon





*In everyday language, I've noticed "politician" carries a connotation of dishonesty, half-truths, flip-flopping, etc.

A statesman is used to describe a guy who does the same job earnestly.

I can't think of any statesmen, but I think maybe JFK was one.What is "Webster's Dictionary" definition of a Politician, and a Statesman?

the difference is the politician is defined to be interested in political office for selfish or short sighted reasons where as the statesman exercises political leadership wisely and without narrow partisanship.
