When Webster wrote the Dictionary, where did he look up the definitions?

Or did he just make them up? Im really confused about thisWhen Webster wrote the Dictionary, where did he look up the definitions?
As a reveared and renowned lexicographer, I have to admit that I know this one.

To evaluate Websters contributions and arrive at realistic measure of his virtues as a lexicographer, it would be useful to consider the advances in the making of English dictionaries since the first dictionary of English, Robert Cawdreys Table Alphabetical of Hard Words, which appeared in 1604. The first English dictionary contained approximately 2,500 words accompanied by brief definitions, its aim was to list and define words Cawdrey judged to be difficult or unfamiliar rather than to provide an exhaustive inventory of the English vocabulary.

In other words...he copied it.
He based the definitions on how the words were used at the time. When Webster wrote the Dictionary, where did he look up the definitions?
It wasn't just one person sitting down and writing a book. It was a coordinated effort by numerous experts in language. But I had to laugh at your question. That's a good one! Like, what is another word for thesaurus? When Webster wrote the Dictionary, where did he look up the definitions?
he used miriams...
to the best of my knowledge he based his definitions on

how the words were used at the time.
